What are perspectives on the human condition? Humans can be noble and dignified and for these gifts we're most grateful to Almighty God. However, we're fallen beings with rather distorted and corrupt natures. From birth we were biologically tainted and have inherited a rather unreliable human condition. One of such sins is racism which has permeated our flesh. It was Jackie Robinson (1919 – 1972) the first African American Major League Baseball baseman in the modern era who said, “I'm not concerned with your liking or disliking me … All I ask is that you respect me as a human being.” To Robinson his thoughts about being human was more than a racist's predisposition.

God Created Man

About 10,000 years ago, it was a glorious act when God created man. Man is the pinnacle of God's creative effort. He, by his very nature has a reflective awareness with ethical concerns. Throughout the ages, he has been engaged in aesthetic endeavors and has a noted historical awareness. Mankind has witnessed great and bad leaders who have ruled powerful nations. Man is also gifted with a metaphysical nature, has multiplied on his home earth and exercised sovereignty over God's creation. Humans were created in God's image and have dominion over all other species on this planet. We're above all other creatures.

Alexandra Stoddard (b. 1941) an author, well-known interior designer and lifestyle philosopher expressed her happiness of the gifts with which she has been blessed. “Being a mother and grandmother is the best of the best of my life. My grandchildren multiply the joy my daughters bring me.”

A Human as a Being

Man is the apex of God's handiwork. He has anatomical similarities with many of God's creatures and he's well-known for his language and tool-making culture. He's more than the “naked ape” and is undoubtedly a gift from God. Man lives with a shared responsibility - not only to his fellow human beings, but to all of God's creation. With an image of God's personality, he also possesses a soul.

Jim Rohn (1930 – 2009) an American entrepreneur, author and motivational speaker known for his “rags to riches” story observed, “You must take personal responsibility. You cannot change the circumstances, the seasons, or the wind, but you can change yourself. That is something you have charge of.” Rohn recognized that God created a free will in us. As we're raised we learn how to make the best decisions as we grow older and older. Real growth is not just physical, intellectual and emotional, but spiritual as well. For ultimate growth, Christians turn to Christ who's the arbiter and provider of all things.

Theory of Life

Man is God-breathed. Within him is God's breath of life and he has a living soul. There's always been a spirit-body connection. To put it another way, we're physical and non-physical beings. We've a physical body, intellect, speech, a family and soul. A Christian knows this, for he practices brotherly love and looks forward to his salvation. To him, life has no end because it's everlasting.

Oprah Winfrey (b. 1954) an American media proprietor, talk show host, actress, producer and philanthropist urged her audience to “Breathe. Let go. And remind yourself that this very moment is the only one you know you have for sure.”

Winfrey's remarks although relevant and will bring her fans to the realization of their present limitations, miss out on the fundamental promises in the Bible. In the present time, most can only think of a physical reality. But our future is physical and spiritual. In the Gospels, Christians are assured of an everlasting life. They have faith about what their future holds for them. The flesh passes away but the soul lives on and on. This experience is unlike any other. Christians are assured that they will flourish in God's Heavenly Kingdom, where Jesus is seated at His Father's right hand. This is a certainty for which martyrs have sacrificed their lives, putting their trust in God. The faithful knows that there's a greater reality beyond our present time.
